A: There are many factors that go into creating a beautiful tummy tuck result. The one feature that is most important and is directly controlled by the surgical technique and aesthetic eye of the plastic surgeon is the appearance of the newly created belly button. The cosmetic features of a belly button can be divided into 3 categories.1. Location2. Size3. ContourIn general the location of the belly button on the abdomen is just below the level of a horizontal line drawn across the mid abdomen at the tops of the hip bone. The distance of the belly button from the pubic bone/groin is usually about 10 to 12 cm. Also the belly button is not usually exactly in the midline of the abdomen. It is usually off to the left or the right of the midline. The most cosmetically appealing size of the belly button for most women should be less than 2cm wide. This can change with body shape and needs to be altered on a case by case basis. The belly button should also be reconstructed to have the scar fall on the inside of the belly button hole. In general when planning a tummy tuck these are loose guidelines for where to relocate the belly button in order to get the most natural appearance. In order to get a pleasing shape after a tummy tuck it is important to understand what make a belly button look normal. For more information about tummy tuck surgery, please visit us online at:
